This Laboratory is focussing on the interdisciplinary research and development. The team at BiRD laboratory is presently targeting on developing the technologies based on bio-inspiration. Lab is working on two sponsored projects by DST and SERB respectively.

The Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) for Design and Manufacturing Education is funded by MHRD under the Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching scheme. The TLC aims to design, develop and disseminate extremely affordable laboratory instruction modules for adoption and use in engineering universities,colleges and polytechnics using low-cost open source hardware and software with Do-It-Yourself and BuildYour-Own methodologies. DIC was established in the year 2016 at IIITDM Kancheepuram with advanced design and fabrication infrastructure facilities to support innovation and start -up. The emphasis of the DIC at IIITDM Kancheepuram is on three major aspects. Discovery/Design, Development & Dissemination.
IIITDM Kancheepuram was functioning at IIT Madras campus till Aug 2011. Later, the Institute moved to its permanent campus located at about 30 kms from Chennai International airport, at Melakottaiyur village, off Vandalur-Kelambakkam Road, Chennai – 600 127. The state of the art permanent campus is in 51.75 Acres allotted by the Govt of Tamilnadu which is close to many educational institutes and is well connected to the Chennai City. The Physical Education University, TN Police Housing Quarters and Unitech Residential Zone are close to the Institute.
Our lecture halls come with the best technology and provide a conducive atmosphere for dynamic and focused discussions between the speakers and the audience. Also we have very minimalistic yet expansive looking space for conducting interviews, group discussions, pre-placement talks etc.

To aid in this mission, the central library of IllTDM Kancheepuram is responsible for the acquisition and dissimilation of information in various forms. The library has a large and diverse collection of books by international and national authors, and subscribes to many national and international journals and electronic sources which are also available through intranet.
